Banff Bus Photographer Launches Spectacular New Canadian Rockies Books
July 13, 2009 – Best-selling author and professional wildlife and nature photographer John E. Marriott of Canmore, Alberta announces the release of his new hardcover coffee table books, The Canadian Rockies: Banff, Jasper & Beyond, large and small edition.
Featuring a striking collection of full-colour photographs, The Canadian Rockies: Banff, Jasper & Beyond captures the astounding diversity and beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
From fascinating wildlife and rarely-seen backcountry gems to scenic classics such as Castle Mountain and Spirit Island, Marriott presents 96 extraordinary images of the mountain parks. In all seasons and under different spells, each book offers a compelling portrayal of a world-renowned wilderness.
The new books follow the June 2007 release of Marriott’s critically-acclaimed Canadian bestseller, Banff & Lake Louise: Images of Banff National Park, the June 2008 launch of Banff’s new fleet of hybrid buses outfitted entirely in Marriott’s life-sized wildlife photographs, and the June 2008 release of Marriott’s second Canadian bestseller, Wildlife of the Canadian Rockies: A Glimpse at Life on the Wild Side.
“My goal with the new books was to produce a striking collection of beautiful photography in very high-end, richly-designed books that was affordable to both locals and visitors alike. I really wanted to showcase my unique style of wildlife and nature photography that may make the viewer look twice and wonder to themselves how the image was taken or what the story behind the image was,” says John. “I wanted to produce a large version of the book that would pair nicely with my two previous coffee table books, but also offer a smaller edition that would appeal to tourists and travellers that may not be able to take a large book home with them.”
The book’s designer, Richard Maruk of Calgary, Alberta, captures John’s distinctive imagery in a stylish design, featuring a unique cigar band slipcover with a stunning glossy image of Moraine Lake in Banff National Park.
The book includes a four-page introduction and four multi-page chapters featuring spring, summer, fall and winter images of wildlife, wildflowers and spectacular scenery from Waterton to Banff to Jasper.
Like John’s previous projects, both editions of the new title are printed on FSC-certified paper to maximize the environmental benefits of printing on chlorine-free paper with recycled content. John is also very proud to announce that all emissions made during the printing, transportation, and distribution of these books, as well as all photographic travel in the past calendar year, were offset with purchases from Carbonzero. John believes that this is a first for a coffee table book produced in Canada.
John concludes, “I really want the reader to get a taste for just how incredible the Canadian Rockies are and give visitors a gorgeous reminder of their once-in-a-lifetime vacation to the Rockies. At the same time I think locals and other Canadians would be proud to display it on their coffee tables.”
