My
Grizzly Shots and Other New Wildlife
Banff National Park and Kananaskis Country
| I
recently have had the incredible opportunity to
spend some time with two young blonde grizzly
bears in Kananaskis Country on a remote dirt road
in the south end of the Recreation Area. They are
the offspring of a young mother that has lived in
the area for the last six years, a bear that I
first saw and photographed in 1993. I watched these
two cubs grow from tiny bundles of fur three
years ago to the young adults that they are now,
on their own for the first time. I feel so
privileged to live in an area like this where
seeing and photographing these magnificent
animals is possible and I hope you enjoy these
pictures half as much as I enjoyed taking them!
Please
note: The bears in these photographs are wild
bears. I photographed them from the safety of my
vehicle and did not approach the bears. As a
wildlife photographer it is always a fine line to
walk between getting a shot and not disturbing or
unnecessarily habituating an animal like a
grizzly bear. I believe my photography of these
bears is more beneficial to them than it is
detrimental, particularly given that I have a
chance to show the world what amazing and
beautiful animals grizzly bears are and to relay
to you how tragic it is that the province of
Alberta continues to offer residents and
foreigners the opportunity to legally hunt them.
